For many, getting a tattoo can be a very big decision. The permanent nature of tattoos cause a lot of people to default to the mindset of “only a well-established Tattoo Artist will do.” While that's an incredibly understandable thought to have, I would implore those people to reconsider an up and coming Tattoo Apprentice as a viable option.
A good Tattoo Apprentice has an insatiable appetite to prove themselves. They realize they're starting at the bottom, and they want to do everything within their power to climb the ladder to success and respect in the industry, as well as a reputation that eventually garners them a steady income from a consistent flow of clients.
Tattoos are forever. Yes, that is basically true. But people fear that means the regret of a tattoo is equally true. That is far from the truth. If a mistake were to be made by an Apprentice, they can and will want to fix that mistake for you free of charge. The last thing an Apprentice wants is a mistake walking around with their name on it, especially before they've had the opportunity to establish themselves. Whether it be thickening a line, getting clever with some shading, or touching up some color, they will most likely be able to rectify that mistake. If the mistake goes beyond a simple fix like that, the Apprentice is never far from their Mentor. Who is a Professional Tattoo Artist, and willing to give insight and direction at any time.
Furthermore, in regards to mistakes, Apprentices are probably not making as many mistakes as you may be thinking. Being meticulous is at an all-time high as an Apprentice. We are low-risk in terms of complacency. We understand we are still learning and developing. Our eyes are wide open. And of course the upside that's obvious to everyone of going with a Tattoo Apprentice is the reduced Apprentice rates. We get it, it's hard out there. Times are tight, but beautiful art is forever. Should you choose to go through an Apprentice, that could mean being able to get that tattoo that you always wanted, but otherwise couldn't afford. I'm not trying to say that choosing an Apprentice is better than going with an established Tattoo Artist, or discredit the merits of choosing an experienced Tattoo Artist. Being that full-time, experienced Artist is what all of us Apprentices aim to be. I'm just saying when you decide to get your next tattoo, you should consider all of your options, including us Apprentices. There are a number of reasons that we can be the best fit for your job.
